It’s all about spring flowers and seed starting here at Midwest Cut Flowers. Spring flowers are poking their heads up through the soil, robins are landing in the yard with big bellies red and bulging and flower seeds are being sowed by the hundreds.

Germination!

We have sowed over a thousand seeds so far. That is not quite half of what is going to be sewn. I am direct seeding a lot of seeds this year. If you are looking to start some seeds indoors here is an easy post on how to do that. Here is what not to do when starting seeds. It has been trial and error over here.

Spring flowers are probably my favorite flowers. Tulips especially! Next season I plan to grow a ton of them, so be sure to subscribe so you can watch the process. I just purchased a tripod to help with my photography!! I feel like I have made it!! Success here I come. Professional photographers watch out!

Spring chores

One of my spring chores is forking the beds and laying down landscape fabric. This fabric is what I use and I love it. I am on my 4th season with some of it. I am going to cover the walkways this season…..usually I leave them bear, however as I grow, I am finding that I can’t keep up with the weeds.

Every spring I amend the soil. By this I mean, that I add whatever organic fertilizer that my soil is lacking. Every fall I send in a soil sample to the Minnesota extension service and they test the soil and see what I need to add.

It always gives me a little anxiety opening up things in the spring….you never know what will hop out at you!! Besides a pair of garden gloves that were totally chewed through, things looked good in there.

As always, subscribe below if you want to get my weekly ramblings and a few recipes thrown into the mix. Leave me a comment! I love hearing from you.
